Guidelines To Racing at The Grove Off-Road Challenge

The Grove Racing Center is located in Rock Hill, S.C. at 939 S. Anderson Rd. (west of I-77 at Exit 77) We are less than 20 miles south of Charlotte, N.C., just minutes from a major shopping mall, movie theaters, bowling alley, restaurants and motels.

The Grove Off-Road Challenge has over 415 ft. of driving line. Obstacles like rhythm sections, table tops, doubles, and a high speed straight away make it "The Challenge". There are 64 covered pits with power, a spacious drivers stand, bleachers, a Hobby Stop and concessions on site.

We use an AMBrc computerized lap counting system including an AMBrc scoreboard to allow for the finest R/C racing in the southeast.

There are several classes, each with its own guidelines. All share the rules and instructions that follow.

  1. Drugs, alcohol, weapons and/or profanity will not be tolerated.

  2. Absolutely no running or horseplay on the property.

  3. A drivers meeting will be held before the racing begins. All drivers should attend. Important instructions will be given at this time.

  4. Drivers should report to the tech area 2:00 minutes into the previous race.

  5. A grace period can only be called from the drivers stand by the driver of the car on the grid having a specific problem.

  6. Only drivers in the ongoing race and staff are allowed on the drivers stand.

  7. Frequency pins must be on all radios that are turned on during practice, the race or in the pits.

  8. All radios are to remain on the drivers stand until the end of race day unless batteries are removed.

  9. Drivers cannot be substituted.

  10. When a car becomes erratic and becomes a hazard to the other drivers it may be blackflagged (pulled from that race).

  11. Cars that finish the race must remain in the tech area until the next race is over.

  12. All drivers must act as turnmarshal in the race directly following their race.

  13. You may have a substitute turnmarshal (another racer) only if your car did not finish the race due to damage.

  14. Turnmarshals are not allowed to make major repairs during the race.

  15. Only turnmarshals are allowed to return cars to tech area.

  16. Turnmarshals are to remove transponders from cars after each race and return them to the tech area .

  17. Race Director or tech personnel can claim any motor for any reason at any time and replace it with a similar motor.

  18. A driver may protest a stock motor when it is in the tech area. A $40.00 fee must be paid at the time of protest.

These are but a few of the rules of racing. If there are any questions or controversies during the race the Race Director will make the call (it may not always be the right one, but it will be final)

There are several regular classes: Spec Off-Road, Stock Buggy, Stock Truck, Modified Buggy, Modified Truck, 1/10 Gas Truck, 1/8 Gas Buggy, and Maxx. Each class is offered each race weekend. A particular class may not race due to turnout. If your class fails to run you will be refunded Entry Fee minus Practice Fee.

Special classes can be run if at least 3 vehicles run in it. The Grove Tech personnel will not tech special classes; however if a particular special class grows it may become a regular class and will be teched.

The Grove will run special events thoughout the racing season.
